Questions

What makes a piano go out of tune?

Changes in relative humidity (assuming there is no mechanical problem such as loose tuning pins). Higher humidity in the summer will drive the piano sharp, lower humidity in the winter will drive the piano flat. This happens as the seasons change, and can even be noticed day-to-day, especially in the summer (if you have a keen ear): one day may may bring 80% relative humidity making the piano sound dreadful, and in a day or two it's back down to 50% and the piano sounds sweet again! Day by day it only effects the tuning a minute amount. But these minute changes mount up as the weeks and months go by.

How long does a tuning last?

Going out of tune is a gradual process that depends almost entirely on the fluctuations of humidity. In an environment with constant temperature and humidity a tuning can last many months indeed, even a year or more. But the problem in New England is that we have such wide extremes of humidity: 80% is not unusual in the summer, and 20% (indoors) is common in the winter. Consequently, our pianos usually sound pretty "twangy" within 3 to 6 months. Or sooner, depending on the humidity changes and your level of ear training.

Can anything be done about these humidity changes?

Keep the humidity around the piano as close to ideal as possible. Ideal humidity for pianos in North America is 42%. Either climate control the house, or if that's not possible, install climate control devices inside the piano.

Do you rebuild pianos?

If you're talking about pinblocks, soundboards or refinishing, the answer is no. If your piano needs rebuilding I can refer you to some reputable rebuilders.

Do you buy and sell pianos?

No. But if you're looking for a piano, I may be able to help you find one. And if you have a piano for sale I can offer some tips on how to go about selling it.
